Well documented and informative. As a retired clinician I do recognise the diagnosis as being one of banishment and futility, but such was also formerly the case with emotionally unstable persons (loosely, BPD); that’s clearly been shown to be erroneous.

I was always moved by the differences between adolescent-limited and lifetime-persistent ASPD which could well depend in many cases on whether or not the individual had intersected with criminal justice agencies or had serendipitously avoided this - different life trajectories often resulted. Thank you for sharing this essay.
